Bail bonds are usually 10% of the full bond amount, and are not refundable. For example, if a bond is set for $20,000, then a bail bonds company will charge $2,000.

Is there a difference between bond amount and bond premium?

Yes. Bond amounts are determined by the court system, and is the full amount of bail required to allow the release of the defendant. A bond agency will charge the bond premium, which is usually 10% of the total bail amount.

What is the premium?

In Alabama, premiums are usually 10% of the total amount of bail. All premiums are non-refundable, and ensure the client's release from custody.
